Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify what kind of role SUGAWARA no Michizane played in the affairs of the Daijokan in the era of Emperor Uda. As specific points of discussion, this paper took up the issue of sending envoys to Tang China and the issue of dispatching envoys to supervise local finances. As a result, the following facts were clarified. SUGAWARA no Michizane was never consulted by Emperor Uda before the council of the Daijokan, and was only asked to assist him as a member of the council of the Daijokan.
