Abstract

This paper explores the resolution to the depopulation in Chinese rural areas and the survival methods of the temples, based on the survey of the Buddhist temples. It also discusses the way that the temples help rural areas in their activation.It is found that these temples so as to survive, set up a self-help organization - the Monk Mutual Aid Group. It utilizes social media to find a suitable resolution of the depopulation problem together with people outside the local area and residents in the area, and eventually creates a network that can open up the local society.
