Abstract

In orthodontic treatment, it is necessary to formulate a treatment plan to acquire a normal occlusion and to bring the facial morphology closer to the ideal image. An average image is one of the ideal images. Orthodontists set goals and treat to approximate the value of each patient's measurement item to the mean. I investigated the value of distances from E-line in 70 adults with normal occlusion. I prepared the subject's 3D facial models using a non-contact 3D laser scanner, and measured the distances with a program for analyzing 3D shapes. The results were such as the mean of distance from E-line was found that upper lip:-0.77 mm and lower lip:+0.80 mm. To verify that these values are useful, I will describe with the following 3 case reports. Case 1:A bimaxillary high-angle case with skeletal ClassⅡ tendency Case 2:Angle ClassⅡ div.1 case with thin lips Case 3:Angle ClassⅡ div.1 case with thick lips
