Abstract

This paper delves into the research trends regarding the use of ICT devices in early childhood education. By examining past academic articles using CiNii, the academic database operated by the National Institute of Informatics in Japan, this paper reveals that research on using computers in early childhood education was conducted as far back as 1984 and that, in 1990, research on giving children computer programming experience was also conducted. Since 2016, as the installation of computer devices in schools began to increase, studies on ICT in early childhood education have also increased. These studies expanded their scope, considering various factors such as the relationship between early childhood education and school or the effectiveness of programming education. In 2020, several studies compared the use of ICT in early childhood education in Japan and other countries, including China, South Korea, and Norway. This study highlighted the necessity of considering the efforts of other countries.
