Description

This paper reviews previous studies on intercultural adaptation and acculturation of host nationals through intercultural contact with foreign guests. First, Chapter 1 introduces the current multicultural and multiethnic situation in Japan, and discusses the challenges faced by foreign students as they adjust to local school environments and their relationships with their hosts. Chapter 2 discusses previous studies on cultural adaptation of hosts in both Japan and abroad, highlighting tendencies in host research. It also discusses the trends of research on Japanese teachers and Japanese students who interacted with foreign children in Japan. The prospects for future research and the possibilities that the diversity of foreign students brings to Japanese school culture are discussed in Chapter 3.
