説明

Silver plating is used for various types of automotive terminals, and recently there have been increasing demands for higher contact reliability, wear resistance, and lower friction coefficients over a wide range of contact loads. Ag-C plating, or silver-graphite composite plating, is a promising candidate. The effects of contact loads on these properties, especially wear behavior, were investigated. The wear resistance decreased with increasing contact load in all the silver plating investigated in this study. The soft and hard Ag–C plating showed low friction coefficients and high wear resistance compared to the conventional soft and hard silver plating at the contact loads of 2–8 N, with the hard Ag–C plating having the best wear resistance. The sliding surfaces and the wear particles after the sliding tests were smoother for the soft and hard Ag–C plating, and energy dispersive X–ray spectroscopy of the hard Ag–C plating revealed that graphite existed on the surface of wear particles. These results indicate that the graphite in the soft and hard Ag–C plating works as a solid lubricant on the contact area during sliding over a wide range of contact loads, preventing adhesive wear specific to silver.
