Description

This study investigated 115 parents during child-rearing periods to examine how expressions of gratitude within couples mediate spillover and compensation regarding household responsibilities, thereby enhancing their mental health. We conducted a covariance structure analysis. Wherein wives’ positive spillover from household to job increased husbands’ gratitude, leading to increased job-related compensation, and improved mental health for wives. Similarly, husbands’ compensation for household responsibilities increased wives’ gratitude, reducing the negative spillover of job stress, and enhancing husbands’ mental health. This study suggests that expressing gratitude for household responsibilities between home and work improves their mental health partially.
