<p>The photonic generation of millimeter- and submillimeter-waves up to the THz range using high-speed and high-output-power uni-traveling-carrier photodiodes (UTC-PDs) is described. The operations, basic device characteristics, and several applications, such as fiber radio transmission systems, imaging systems, and measurement systems including the local signal supply for radio telescopes, are overviewed.</p>
