Abstract

<p>With an increase in consciousness on global environmental problems worldwide, light emitting diode (LED) lighting has been focused on. LED lamps, LED lighting equipment and their application areas, such as the scene lighting systems of the Tokyo Sky Tree in Japan and the Louvre Museum in France, which were developed by Japanese LED manufacturers, are expanding rapidly. To apply LED lighting, which is a novel technology, to the entire society, there still remain several requirements, such as further R&D and the establishment of a legal framework for safety and international standardization. The Japanese government has started to take action to promote LED lighting in society.</p>
