Abstract

Quantum dots give the freedom to design new types of solar cells, with the potential for high energy conversion efficiency. In this paper, we show recent advances in quantum dot solar cells, including the demonstration of quantum dot solar cells without degradation of the open circuit voltage and flexible quantum dot solar cells. The theoretical limit of the conversion efficiency of nearly 80 percent by introducing multiple-bands is also discussed. Finally, we discuss the paradigm shift brought about by highly efficient solar cells excluding the cost competition.
