Abstract

The Japan Society of Applied Physics established the Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Technology in 2001. Since then, the Society has strived to meet the requests and requirements of technicians and researchers through a variety of activities. As a founding member of the Japan Inter-Society Liaison Association Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Engineering (EPMEWSE), which unites different societies across the field of science and technology, the Japan Society of Applied Physics took the lead in conducting the survey report commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and published the results in 2003. In April 2006, two sub-groups (students and young researchers, and seniors) were added to the Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women in Science and Technology, which was then renamed the “Committee for Promoting Equal Participation of Men and Women and Investment in People”. In this article, the past activities are reviewed and future prospects of the newly-founded Committee, which faces a significant task in investing in human resources, are presented. .
