Description

The purpose of this study was to investigate the important factors affecting the social acceptance of autonomous vehicles (AVs) before and after test ride. Questionnaire results of 493 respondents collected in the social experiments in Aichi Prefecture, Japan are used as research sample. The Structural Equation Model was applied to consider awareness difference for technology and contents of test ride. The major findings indicate: 1) the important factors affecting the acceptance was not identical due to the awareness difference; 2) respondents with lower awareness were feeling uncomfortably during the test ride, and had a lower level of acceptance; 3) it was expected that test ride experience could acquaint the respondents with knowledge and understanding, which would improve the social acceptance for AVs.
