Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among participation in school-based extracurricular activities, school adjustment and school morale in high school students from the viewpoint of extent of extracurricular involvement and school type. The participants were 2,375 students at prefectural high schools. Those high schools were classified into three types; high-level school, middle-level school, and low-level school. The results suggested that the students with active involvement in extracurricular activities had higher scores on each domain of school adjustment and school morale. On the other hand, the scores of students with low active involvement in extracurricular activities were not higher than non-participants' scores. Therefore, it was suggested that the active involvement in extracurricular activities is important.
