Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the location of medical facilities among suburbanizing public facilities and to discuss how to control the developments of medical facilities in the local cities. First, the trend of new locations of the medical facilities for the past 20 years in local cities has been analyzed. Then, the characteristics of new locations of medical facilities are pointed out from analysis of relevance with the characteristics of local cities. There are four types of city characteristics and six types of new locations. Among these, there are many medical facilities that locate on the urban fringe outside the urbanization promotion areas, especially in the urbanized cities. To control these facilities, the on-site-redevelopments should be promoted in downtown. In addition, the newly establishments in urbanization control areas should be prohibited without making district plan.
