Abstract

The present study was undertaken in order to discern the systematic position of "transcendental social work" within the structure of social work defined by Yukinori Unno. His definition of social work is based on four concepts "negative social work", "positive social work", "synthetic social work" and "transcendental social work". "Transcendental social work" has been the subject of little study due to many people considering this concept as idealistically metaphysical. It is necessary to answer the question: "Why is it idealistic and metaphysical?" "Transcendental social work" is in a different dimension from the three other concepts. It is not a "constitutive principle" but a "regulative principle". The argument is made that Unno and his critics misunderstood "transcendental social work" as a "constitutive principle".
