Description

To investigate the influence of the molecular weight(MW)and chemical structure of macroglycols,PURs with high hard segment(HS)were synthesized from smaller MW of poly(oxytetramethylene)glycol(PTMG; MW:650, T65)or polycaprolactone glycol(PCL; MW:1000, L1)which has the goodcompatibility to epoxy resins, 4,4’-diphenylmethanediisocyanate(MDI)and 1,4-butanediol(BD)inepoxy resins by using the same synthesis method in the previous paper. We respectively examined therelationship between physical properties of the modified epoxy resins and MW of macroglycols, HScontents of PURs, the chemical structure of macroglycols, and considered the results in comparisonwith results of the previous paper. In points of the T65-PUR, the adhesive properties and fracturetoughness of cured epoxy resin were improved with the amounts of PURs, and increases of HS contentsof PURs made bending properties and fracture toughness modified conspicuously. Micro phaseseparation structures of the sea and island type were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM)of one, the particle sizes of them became minuter diameter in compliance with the increase of HS contentsof PURs. On the other hand, the L1-PUR which has the high compatibility with epoxy resinshowed slight improved adhesive properties, but fracture toughness and bending modulus were effectivelyimproved. The results of SEM showed that the particle size of PURs became much minuterdiameter as nano size than PTMG-type PURs.
