Description

Our website, "Biological Indicator Ground Beetles Database, Japan Natural Woodlands Ground Beetles" (http://www.lbm.go.jp/emuseum/zukan/gomimushi/), was awarded the Akitsu Prize 2011 by the Japanese Entomological Society. Taxonomic and ecological information, together with photographic images, of 299 species of ground beetle inhabiting "Satoyama" woodlands (traditional managed woodlands around farming villages in Japan) are made public in this data base. In separate webpage for each species, the Japanese name, scientific name, morphological characteristics, distribution, ecological profile, information on type specimens, and other remarks are given.
