Description

Diplopia, more commonly known as double vision, occurs when the visual axes of both eyes do not merge. Various diseases, such as central and peripheral nervous system or orbital disorders can cause diplopia. Another disorder affecting the visual field is oscillopsia, which occurs when the neural mechanism that stabilizes gaze is disturbed. Causative diseases for oscillopsia also vary; however, these most often, include peripheral and central vestibular disorders, as well as visual and spatial perception disorders. A careful neuro-ophthalmological examination is necessary for understanding the pathophysiology of diplopia and oscillopsia and should precede diagnostics for the causative disease.
