Abstract
K community in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture suffered serious damage during the battle of Okinawa in W.W. II and was compelled to relocate by forcible expropriation of land for the construction of military bases. Buildings and structures in old village were almost destroyed and people concerned with the sites are allowed to access the sites under control. This paper discusses the way of inheritance of the memories in the village from prewar to postwar age. Analysis of features of historical assets shows the necessity of approach to adapt the characteristics of historical assets and which were transformed or disappeared. People of K community held an activity to succeed memories of old village and new village area. Effective use of vacant site of disappeared historical assets, layers of memories, continuity of community involvement with sites and assets indicating community territory are important for activities for inheritance of memories.
