<p>The slip circle method is commonly used in the stability analysis of embankment dams, earth embankments and natural slopes. The principal theory of the slip circle method is not understood precisely and is often misused in the practice field. The theory of the slip circle method is reviewed strictly and its precise usage is proposed in this paper.</p>
