Abstract

Background: Insertion and attachment of the Seprafilm adhesion barrier is commonly thought to be cumbersome and difficult in laparoscopic surgery. However, we have developed a double moist roll technique that makes this procedure easy to perform without any special devices. We report on how to insert and attach Seprafilm from a 5-mm port with this technique.

Method: 1) Cut a rectangular Seprafilm quarter pack in half (into two triangular sheets). 2) Moisturize two sheets of Seprafilm on moist gauze. 3) Overlay two sheets of Seprafilm and grasp the sharp edge with forceps and twist the Seprafilm around the forceps. 4) Wipe the entrance and the inside of the 5-mm port and insert the Seprafilm into the abdominal cavity through the port.

Results: The Seprafilm decompresses automatically in the abdominal cavity, can be attached according to the surgeon’s needs.
