Description

A total of 63 ears that underwent cartilage tympanoplasty with or without ossiculoplasty were evaluated. Of that number, 15 were atelectatic ears (AE), 26 had tensa cholesteatoma (TC), and 22 were old radicalized ears (RE) with adhesive eardrum. Re-pneumatization of the mesotympanum was achieved 87% in AE, 77% in TC, and 59% in RE. Success in hearing improvement was 67% in AE, 46% in TC, and 32% in RE. The combination of the drum status and preoperative CT aeration represents a useful system for evaluating the severity of disease, allowing improved prediction of hearing outcomes.
