Abstract
Today, teaching staff in nursing colleges strive to build a foundation that would enable nursing students to engage in skilled nursing practice. However, few of them can confidently answer with a “yes” as to whether the education they are providing truly enables nursing students to cultivate this foundation. To educate nursing students to become skilled nurses in the future, it is necessary to provide “well thought-out experiences,” and “the quality of experience” is more important than “the length of experience.” Recently, active learning has been recommended and practiced in nursing education; however, providing active learning without specific goals would not help establish the foundation for becoming a skilled nurse. There should be “a methodical philosophy” and “a success-based philosophy.” Therefore, this study aims to discuss how nursing students should be educated to build a foundation for skilled future nurses.
