Description

The aim of this paper is to investigate characteristics of the freedom of the press in the digital age. Expansions of digitalization and networking in publishing activities have potential possibilities to lose the independence, diversity and locality, which lead to reduce the freedom of the press. To solve this problem, the publishing industries need to focus on access of equality and the maintenance of diversity, to ensure the "public nature" of publishing. Also, leakage of government information via the Internet triggered the registration for the Secret Protection Law 2013 in Japan. The new law becomes a big threat to freedom of the press.
