Description
<p>This research clarifies the method of Pastiglia frequently used in Carlo Crivelli tempera painting which was active in the Italian-Renaissance period through demonstration experiments. So far, we investigated the fresco mural paintings of San Marco Monastery in Florence painting by Fra’ Angelico, include the nimbuses of “Annunciation” and “crucifixion and saints.” After conducting the demonstration experiments in accordance with Chennino Chennini’s ‘Il libero Dell’arte’ (‘The Craftsman’s Handbook’), it was possible to clarify that include the nimbuses technique of tempera painting was used. Next, we expanded the survey to the technique of craft decoration of tempera painting before and after the Renaissance period. Specificity was found in the pastiglia technique of “Carlo Crivelli masterpiece” “Maria Magdalena” (Rijks Museum in Amsterdam). Dare to stick to the tradition of tempera painting in the Renaissance period, to reproduce and verify the technique of pastiglia that was adopted.</p>
