Abstract
Mecopoda nipponensis is one of the most famous singing katydids in Japan. In Nagano Prefecture, this katydid is only found in Tenryu Village and its range has remained mostly unchanged for 50 years. Here, we investigated distributions of M. nipponensis and habitat patches in Tenryu Village in August and September 2014. We showed that the distribution of this katydid was little different from that in 2003, although its range partly expanded along the Hayakido River. We also found that the connectivity of habitat patches decreased when approaching the Hiraoka settelement, the northern limit of its range. Our results indicate that it seems difficult for this singing katydid to expand its range northward beyond the Hiraoka settlement, in spite of future climate warming.
