"Tokai Road Lighting-up Festival" was held to promote cultural possibilities of Higashi Mikawa Area along the avenue of pine trees, which is national treasure, in Toyokawa-shi in September 2006. The writer paticipated in this event as a director and an artist. It was our hope that it would be effective in developing cultural awareness from the viewpoint of lifelong education. From the viewpoint of lifelong education, there was a need for a guidebook to facilitate appreciation of artworks and to promote understanding of the new quality of artworks based on the idea of Discipline Based Art Education. It was hoped that the viewers would be able to enjoy artworks in a deeper sense and would be able to associate art as a part of culture. This community-based event was not and will not be held by one individual or group alone. It would rather be as a part of the art movement and development of the area. As such it will contribute to saving problems of people having difficulty in understanding modern art works after the 20th century. There is a necessity for not only art curators but also people from the art education field to promote local cultural activities.
