Description

This study examines the legibility of Gothic (Sans serif) and Mincho (Roman) typeface in Japanese Typogtaphy to make clear the good performance of unseriffed typefaces for text setting. It makes comparative proofs in horizontal setting with 12Q (8.5pt) set in 18H (12.8pt) line spacing, 16Q (11.3pt) in 24H (17pt), 24Q (17pt) in 36H (25.5pt) on white background of LCD Display. It found that Mincho created higher legibility in 12Q and 24Q setting though Gothic showed efficient result in 16Q setting which implies an ability for the text setting of unseriffed typeface.
