Description

The purpose of this study is to understand the difference in travel behavior between Japanese and foreign tourists using rental bicycles in Kyoto city. The survey on the travel behavior of those tourists is conducted by using GPS log data and the questionnaire surveys. There are no remarkable differences in the average travel distance and the average usage time between Japanese and foreign tourists, but some differences in travel behavior, such as the average number of places visited, route choice criteria and problems with the rental bicycle trip. Both Japanese and foreign tourists also pointed out the problems of bicycle parking, such as the difficulty in finding bicycle parking lots and the shortage of the bicycle parking lots.
