Abstract

Information terminal devices such as smartphone and tablet terminator rapidly spread into Japanese schools and educational situations. Knowledges and skills on the information and communication technology (ICT) are needed for modern teachers urgently.

But Japanese teachers have a lot of work on their daily educational activity and student guidance. Still great amount of teachers are not familiar with the ICT technology and information devices. On the contrary, students become familiar with the smartphone and social networking services (SNS). Some children tend to make troubles on the SNS, so teachers tend to prohibit the using information terminal devices by students.

Restriction for ICT at school is unreal and prohibition of the SNS for children is useless. We need to understand the risk and characteristic of the Internet with student and construct the suitable policy to using ICT and SNS with children. To do so we have to develop new teacher educational contents for understanding the Internet profoundly.

From the standpoint of the media history, Internet is not the unprecedented objects nor the uncontrollable monster. Analogical inferences on the old media such as telephones help us for understanding the characteristics and risks of the Internet.

Media theory from M.MctLuhan to now also help us understanding the mentality of the students who make trouble on SNS and who fall into unhealthy dependence to the smartphone and Internet.

Using these resources and contents, our educational practice at the Graduate school for teacher education have good results. Participants expressed more positive attitude on the educational practice about the information literacy and adequate usage on the Internet.
