Description

An around 90 years old man presented with a 2-day history of fatigue and multiple organ failure upon arrival. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed tumors in the right liver lobe. Percutaneous drainage of malignant tumors is associated with the risk of dissemination. Therefore, we elected to administer empiric treatment with broad-spectrum antimicrobials for a tentative diagnosis of multiple liver abscesses. However, multiple organ failure progressed, and he died on the third day of hospitalization. Autopsy confirmed the absence of malignancy and a diagnosis of multiple liver abscesses. Drainage of lesions is necessary for definitive diagnosis in such cases.
