Description
Removed soil and waste is defined as that debris which has been generated by decontamination activities in Fukushima. A review committee has been organized by the Ministry of the Environment to formulate a technology development strategy relating to volume reduction and recycling of the removed soil/waste. It will also examine what is necessary to promote recycling and volume reduction before final disposal outside Fukushima Prefecture. This report introduces the basic premises of the proposed strategy, outlines the full endeavor, and explains how intermediate evaluations to achieve the interim goal will work. It is the author’s opinion that technological development must be urgently addressed in the near future, and this will require the applicability of conventional technologies implementing contaminated soil removal, desalting washing of incineration ash, and production of eco-cement from incineration ash.
