Abstract

To improve fuel consumption, miniaturization and lightweight are necessary for the transmission used in cars. Metal V-belt CVT requires Hydraulic drive system, and Toroidal CVT has complex structures; thus, authors regarded a rolling element bearing as the planetary gear mechanism and proposed a CVT having structural simplicity and manufacturing easily. The CVT using cylindrical roller bearing can transmit without preloading device. The diameter of the oversized rolling element used in this CVT is made larger than the diameter of the original rolling element. The systems can transmit power as a traction drive by having an oversize preload. And the systems can achieve operation of the CVT by rotating outer ring in the bearing. Driving the CVT using cylindrical roller bearing, the following results were obtained. (1) The measured rotational speed gave good agreement with the theoretical rotational speed. (2)Loss of transmission torque was about 5 Nm before switching power flow. Creep mark on the outer ring outside surface is confirmed after operation test.
