Abstract

Asia has a great potential to be a major energy investment market in the world within the context of low-carbon society. The scale of the investment market would be critical information for Japanese private company activities and getting carbon credit. However, no studies have shown the Asian potential yet. Here we show that Asian low-carbon investment potential by using an integrated assessment model. The long-term climate stabilization goal stated in the Paris agreement could generate Asian energy investment at 1.7 trillion $ in 2050 that is equivalent to one third of the Japanese current GDP. Majority of the investment would occur in renewable energy power generation and around three forth of the investment is dominated by only two countries; China and India.
