Description

A 67 year-old female was transported with unconsciousness of unknown origin. Glasgow coma scale was E3V1M4 and she required tracheal intubation. There were no findings in initial laboratory tests and imaging. The next day, she awoke and we recognized that overdosing of 200 tablets of an over-the-counter drug ‘Seirogan' caused her unconsciousness and liver injury. Seirogan has been used as an anti-diarrhea drug in Japan. The main component of Seirogan is wood creosote that contains a small dose of phenol. We should care more about overdosing of Seirogan that may cause vomit, shock, unconsciousness and delayed liver injury.
