Abstract

<p>Since the collapse of the so-called “Bubble economy” in the 1980s, magazine circulation in Japan has been changing in its content and meaning. This article examines how magazine circulation has diversified in the 1990s from the viewpoint of advertising.</p><p>Paid circulation is now widely accepted, while magazine circulation is linked to the value of media (media effect) defined and used by publishers and advertisers as their own significant index.</p>
