Description

The characteristics of landslide distribution after the Mid Niigata Prefecture Earthquake in 2004 were investigated using spatiotemporal data on landslides from 2001 to 2016 in the Chuetsu region, Niigata Prefecture. In the northeastern part of the Kawaguchi region (covering approximately 17×17km), the occurrence of landslide increased after the earthquake. Most of the landslides after the earthquake in this region tended to be distributed in areas where many landslides occurred at the earthquake and where the maximum acceleration and/or seismic intensity were high. In addition, in some case, the amount of rainfall immediately before the occurrence of landslides during the rainy seasons (June - November) after the earthquake was smaller than that before the earthquake. Moreover, 77% of the landslides after the earthquake had areas of less than 1×103m2, which tended to be considerably smaller than those before and at the earthquake.
