Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic ability of the keratoconus index compared with other keratoconus (KC) screening indices.

Method: We enrolled patients who underwent examination via Pentacam HR®, PR-7000® and TMS-4®, and classified into either the normal or KC group based on D-index. The keratoconus index measured by PR-7000®, and KCI (Keratoconus Index) and KSI (Keratoconus Suspective Index) measured by TMS-4® were evaluated. The area under the receiver-operating-characteristics (AU-ROC) and confidence interval (CI) was calculated to assess the diagnostic ability of the indices.

Results: This study involved 40 eyes of 40 KC patients and 80 eyes of 80 normal subjects. No significant difference was found in AU-ROC between the keratoconus index, KCI, and KSI (0.950 CI: 0.901–1.000, 0.963 CI: 0.921–1.000, and 0.963 CI: 0.916–1.000, respectively).

Conclusions: The keratoconus index, showed large AUROC as well as KCI and KSI, which may be an effective diagnostic option for detecting KC.
