Abstract

A negative muon is one of the elementally particles having the same charge as an electron and 207 times heavier mass. The negative muon can make a muon atomic orbit around a nucleus in the same way as electrons and form a muonic atom. Although the muon atomic orbit exists near the nucleus, chemical effect, that is, valence electron effect on the formation process of muonic atom has been known. Moreover, the muonic atom can react with other atoms or molecules like normal atoms. This paper reviews an overview on chemical researches using negative muons.
