Description
<p>This paper describes representation and use of student model incorporating the function of nonmonotonic reasoning. Many techniques or ideas of student modelling have already been proposed as overlay model, differential model and perturbation model so far. Here, we discuss how to have the system understood the deep relational structure of knowledge which a student acquires in the teaching/learning process by adopting idea of nonmonotonic reasoning, and using the function of truth maintenance system. We assume that the structure of student's understanding on a certain domain depends on his existent axiom as belief. So we suppose that it is important for the system to recognize the distortion of his axiom system. Moreover, we propose the general tutoring rules by which the system can interpret the state of student model, and the dialogue management rules by which it can develop an adaptive teaching scenario.</p>
