Abstract

While demonstration tests and plans for freight transportation by Shinkansen are in progress, previous studies have not been sufficiently evaluated the freight transportation by Shinkansen focusing on resource input and comparing the multiple freight transportation by Shinkansen. In this study, we consider multiple freight transportation by Shinkansen (consolidated loading on existing vehicles, pallet-type cargo Shinkansen (4-axle/car), pallet-type cargo Shinkansen (6-axle/car) & Train-on-Train). The changes of resource input, CO2 emission reduction, and reduction time through the freight transportation options by Shinkansen were evaluated and compared.

As a result, it was estimated that from the viewpoint of reduction, Train-on-Train, and from the viewpoint of reduction per unit transportation volume, consolidated loading on existing vehicles have the greatest effect. From the viewpoint of reduction, it was found that reduction was larger in the freight transport by Shinkansen than in the existing improvement project.
