- Study on Fluidization of High-Viscosity Heavy Oil by Emulsification

<p>The authors examined experimentally viscosities of several heavy oil mixtures with water and three types of surfactants with the aims of promotion of fluidization and viscosity control of heavy oil. The results of our experiments on dispersion system of heavy oil and water indicate that water/oil emulsion is formed when the additive quantity of water is small and viscosity of the sample increases as the additive quantity of water increases, that phase inversion from water/oil to oil/water occurs at a certain point and viscosity of the sample decreases when the additive quantity of water increases by adding surfactant into the dispersion system of heavy oil and water, and that oil/water emulsion formed by adding surfactant is stable while phase inversion to oil/water doesn’t occur or separates unstably into water/oil emulsion and water unless surfactant is added.</p>
