Abstract

Unscheduled disruptions such as delays of manufacturing processes and addition of rush orders occur in manufacturing enterprises. In previous research, we proposed a reactive scheduling method based on a genetic algorithm in order to improve the disturbed production schedules. This research develops an extended reactive scheduling method which considers set-up operations by human operators in multi-product low-volume manufacturing enterprises such as die manufacturers. A set-up operation and a removal operation are added to the existing schedule model as new model components. The relationships between the new model components are determined for making a feasible production schedule. A new reactive scheduling process is proposed for modifying a production schedule in consideration of set-up and removal operations. Additionally, a heuristic rule is used with the genetic algorithm in order to improve the production schedule from the viewpoint of a make-span. We developed a prototype of reactive scheduling system considering set-up operations of human operators. Computational experiments are carried out in order to verify the effectiveness of the extended reactive scheduling method.
