Abstract

<p>The hub crack of heavy duty trucks made by Japanese truck makers happened in 2000s as the wheel hub crack problem. The purpose of this paper is to approach from investigations referring the brake squeal problem in 1990s, when brake lining materials had changed from asbestos to non-asbestos for the health and safety for the human. At the same time, the brake jerk phenomenon happened. This paper describes a calculation of hub bending moments which resulted in higher friction coefficient, and tested the brake jerk phenomenon and the hub bending with a model test rig.</p>
