Description

A 60-year-old man was found unconscious. Head computed tomography and toxicology panel findings were normal. Central temperature was 41°C and ensuing renal dysfunction and coagulopathy indicated severe heatstroke. Three days after admission, he developed acute hepatic failure. Plasma exchange and hemodiafiltration were performed and 1,000 mg/day of methylprednisolone was administered for 3 days. Subsequently, his laboratory and clinical findings improved. We recommend that severe heatstroke cases with acute hepatic failure be treated under intensive care. Our findings provide further insight for physicians and intensive care nurses into the outcomes of heatstroke cases with hepatic complications.
