Description

Dehumidifiers are often used in stack rooms to keep books in good condition. In stack rooms, ventilation with the outdoor air occurs, which may affect the temperature and humidity of the stack rooms and the load of the dehumidifier. In this study, the temperature and humidity measurements of a stack room in a university library where dehumidifiers were always in operation showed that a high humidity condition can be reduced by decreasing the inflow of outdoor air. In addition, a numerical analysis of the temperature and humidity in the stack rooms considering the hygrothermal capacity of the walls and books was conducted. It was shown that the temperature and humidity of the stack room can be reproduced by the model proposed in this paper, and the effects of outdoor air inflow and dehumidifier operation was quantified by the model. The results showed that the same level of humidity can be achieved with a smaller amount of dehumidifier operation by decreasing the inflow of outdoor air in the case of the examined stack room.
