<p>The objective of this study is to elucidate the actual situation and the interrelationship of regional houses and houses with a woodstove. We conducted an exhaustive survey on the number of regional houses and houses with a woodstove in Kaneyama Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Houses built in the regional style made up 41.6% (720 houses) of the entire town, and woodstoves were used in 11.5% (199 houses) of the entire town. It was revealed that regional houses were the most prevalent, at 51.7% (329 houses), in the urban area of the town, and houses with a woodstove were the most prevalent, at 23.9% (78 houses), in the mountainous area of the town. On the other hand, the usage rate of woodstoves in regional houses was relatively low, at 9.9% (71 houses). Even in the same town, the number of regional houses and the form of regional houses differ for each area, and there is a possibility that the use of a woodstove may affect the form of regional houses.</p>
