Abstract

Colorectal cancer screening by Iwate Prefecture Cancer Society started in fiscal 1985 and continued for 33 years until fiscal 2018, with 2,186,055 people examined and 4,795 cases of colorectal cancer ‹0.22%‹ detected. The total until fiscal year 2006 and the subsequent 6 years were analyzed, focusing on the relationship between changes in the medical examination method since the start of screening, and screening results. As a result, the total average regional and occupational examination rate was 5.6%, with an average rate of further detailed examinations of 83.0%. Cancer was detected in 1,444 persons, including early cancer in 911‹63.1%‹. In recent years, the cancer detection rate of colorectal cancer screening has been high, and the ratio of localized cancer, which is also considered cancer detection, has also been high. The 5-year survival rate in discovered cases was 90.8% and the 10-year survival rate was 84.4%; therefore, the current screening method was considered to be highly effective as a preventive method for colorectal cancer death. As a result of assessing all examinations, the importance of quality control was identified.
