Description

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of “Seamless Education” using high-performance simulator for students without an attached clinical university hospital. In this study, seamless education is an active clinical nurse education strategy for undergraduate nursing students using high-performance clinical practice simulator that clinical and university work together. The facilitator of seamless education is a Certified Nurse in Emergency Nursing at A Hospital. This investigation was conducted in July 2019, following a qualitative exploratory design using content analysis approach. There were 83 students of University A who were selected to participate through purposive sampling. After the seamless educational experience, the qualitative data were collected using an awareness survey. Analysis of the data revealed four thematic categories, namely “understanding actual nursing practices mimicking those of the clinical settings,” “practices that cannot be experienced in clinical training,” “feeling competent to work as a registered nurse after graduation” and “utilization of knowledge with technologies learned in classroom lectures.” The seamless education that combined the use of high-performance clinical practice simulators and a Certified Nurse in Emergency Nursing led to an experience equivalent to learning in clinical practice. Seamless education led to learning nursing practice that could not be gained through student clinical training for students without an attached clinical university hospital. In addition, it was suggested that “Seamless Education” could be an educational method that complements responses to the problems of current clinical practices.
