Description

Zn modified vanadium oxide cluster doped Co (Zn-VOx-Co) 2D ultra-thin metal nanosheets are successfully grown on the carbon fiber paper by a simple electro-deposition route, which show excellent electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). To support an HER current density of 10 mA cm-2, it only requires an overpotential of 72.8 mV (or 46.8 mV after IR compensation) with a small Tafel slope of 75 mV dec-1 and long-stability of more than 36 h without decay. Detailed investigation unveils that the excellent HER performance of Zn-VOx-Co is tightly associated with its numerous overlapped 2D ultra-thin metal nanosheets, which provides excellent mass transport property and huge electrochemical active surface area, resulting in much improved catalytic activities. This work may help deepen our understanding on the HER process on nonprecious metal-based hybrid electrocatalysts.
